Verse Abrogation (الناسخ والمنسوخ)

Abrogation refers to the fact that the god of Islam revealed some verses to Muhammad, but then decided to abrogate (cancel) them replacing them with better verses (do God's words have different grades/levels (good and better)?).

Quran 2:106

An example of an abrogated verse is a verse which allows drinking alcohol (Quran 16:67):

As a matter of fact all of the abrogated verses are Mekkan verses, which Muhammad brought while he was weak without an army. During which time Muhammad only brought peaceful verses. But then after Hijra (when he travelled from Mekka to Medina), he was able to collect an army. This was when all of the peaceful verses given in Mekka were abrogated by "verses of the sword", violent verses given in Medina.

The vast majority of Muslims ignore the fact that such Mekkan peaceful verses were abrogated (cancelled). For example:

  • Quran 109:6 "You have your religion and I have mine" (لَكُمْ دِينُكُمْ وَلِىَ دِينِ)
